Emanuel Ungaro in the Spotlight…thanks to Lindsey Lohan!

Lindsey Lohan’s chaotic public life has yet another negative chapter. The bronze, once innocent Lohan has teamed up with designer Estrella Arches to produce the Spring Ready-to-Wear 2010 collection. In just a couple of months, the pieces are complete and ready for the runway. Unfortunately for Lohan and Arches, the show did not receive positive reviews.

Women’s Wear Daily writes:

“As for the clothes, they looked cheesy and dated, as has often been the case chez Ungaro during the post-Emanuel revolving door of designers. Hot pink, orange and flashy, with an overworked heart motif relentless in its execution, the collection displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver. Nor in a million years would one guess that the lineup was designed by one young woman and ‘creative directed’ by another. Glitter heart pasties all around, ladies?”

The hot accessory is the heart pasties that seem to appear on almost all the models. I personally do not understand the sequined hearts on the models’ foreheads. Maybe it is just little amateur me.

Some pieces I liked. The blazers were not bad. I have seen the 80s look on other designers’ collections and the style is making a comeback. However, the collection does have a little too much 80s and not enough Lindsey. The collection was disappointing perhaps because it did not deliver the actress’s unique style which is about taking it one step further.

The construction is simple. One or two outfits consist only shoulder padded blazers over a cheap looking bra with a, yes, you guessed it, a heart pasty! Surprise, surprise.

I do like some of the dresses in the collection, especially the midnight blue with one long sheer sleeve.

Is Estrella’s spring 2010 collection really that bad? If you did not know Lindsey had an influence, would you like the spring line? I really want to know what you think.

Hooray for Sneakers!

I am a girl that owns many many sneakers. Some girls have beautiful high heels, I have beautiful sneakers. I love how

comfortable they are, how versatile. I love their bright colors and the simplicity of them.

Don’t get me wrong, I do love me some high heels, but unlike Victoria Beckham, I do not wear them day and night. Sure, they make your legs look slimmer and longer but
sneakers will protect you from spilt drinks, and they will never break when you step over a side-walk grate. They are like the low maintenance best friend that you always come back to. Well, at least I always come back to.

They are not always for sports companies like Adidas (as seen in Mr. Happy), Skechers, and Levi (blue sneakers). I say bring back sneakers in high fashion!

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Do you have an Editorial Eye?

Being a religious reader of Elle magazine, I read a short article on having an editorial eye when it comes to styling. The article emphasizes practice and visualization. Of course, many of you fashionistas already know that. The problem is sometimes editors have a tendency to pick things that they like instead of what their audience or clients should wear.

The article makes relevance with the premiere of The City (big fan, not afraid to admit it). Just as Anne Slowey said in the show, you have to think beyond your own style, thinking of yourself does not an editor make. Thanks Anne!

If you have a natural editorial eye, you are lucky. For those of us who has to work at it, practice, practice, visualize, visualize! You can challenge yourself by choosing women with bodies (like the rest of us, humble morals) that cannot look good in every trend and style. You can practice dressing those bodies and the challenge is to limit yourself to what you have access to.

For example, high-waist puffy skirts are really cute and I do love the style but I cannot pull the look off because I have a pear shape. The skirt would exaggerate my hips (and that I do not what to do). But it might just be the right look for someone with a more boy-shaped figure and actually want more curves.

Here is the website where I was enlightened by fashion wisdom. Enjoy!

“First Love Burns the Brightest”

Tonight I went to see “Bright Star,” a film by Jane Campion. I had a feeling that I would love this film. First of all, I love period pieces, the costumes, the mannerism, the way they talk. Anyways, I walked in the theatre and I was the ONLY one who is under 25. The rest of the audience consists of women (mostly) in their 50s and 60s. I just thought that was kind of funny and interesting.

I loved the film. John Keats and Fanny Brawne’s love for each other portrayed in the movie was filled with yearning and simplicity. They didn’t play mind games with each other. They just simply loved and let themselves be loved by each other. The scenes were breathtaking, filled with warmth of colors and freshness.

I also HAVE to compliment Abby Cornish, the actress who plays Fanny. Abby was amazing. She portrayed the emotions perfectly. I felt what she felt…perhaps that is why I cried so much.

ARGHHHH!!! Talking about this film makes me want to go see it again and again and again. I know if I keep going, I am never going to shut up. So, in conclusion, I give “Bright Star” an A+++ for all the elements…soundtrack, actors/actresses, beautiful scenes…and for giving me a wonderful experience.
